New Tudor History Tours – Press Release

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

A new history tour company is providing dream vacations for history lovers. www.HistoryToursofBritain.com is a new website offering a range of luxury history tours for history lovers worldwide, incorporating staying at historic houses, such as Hever Castle and Leeds Castle, with visiting historic attractions and listening to talks from eminent historians. Following on from the resounding success of the 2010 Anne Boleyn Experience and the response to the launch of the 2011 Executed Queens Tour, which was sold out within 1 week of launch, History Tours of Britain have just launched a new programme of Tudor history tours for 2011 and 2012.

In an interview, the brains behind www.historytoursofbritain.com and AnneBoleynFiles.com creator Claire Ridgway said that “History Tours of Britain is a result of all of the emails and enquiries we have had about our previous tours and the requests for more tours. We were blown away by the response to last year’s Anne Boleyn Experience Tour, where people were commenting on how it was their dream vacation and the experience of a lifetime, and where people were crying on the last day because they didn’t want to go home. We want as many people as possible to be able to have their dream vacation and that is why we have extended our tour programme to include a Tudor London Tour and a Discover the Tudors Tour. We are so excited about this new venture.”

By booking with History Tours of Britain, history lovers will enjoy a dream vacation spent with like-minded people, learn more about history and stay in luxury accommodation. History Tours of Britain have set themselves apart from other history tours by focusing on staying in castles and historic places rather than anonymous hotels. If you want to learn more about the programme of tours on offer this year and next, just visit www.historytoursofbritain.com

Queen Elizabeth II Attends the Maundy Thursday Service on her 85th Birthday

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Today, Queen Elizabeth II marked her 85th birthday by attending the traditional annual Maundy Thursday service which was held today at Westminster Abbey, the same place where she will celebrate the wedding of her grandson, Prince William, and Kate Middleton in just over a week’s time.

In a service commemorating the Last Supper of Jesus Christ and his twelve disciples and dating back over 800 years, the Queen carried out the traditional symbolic gesture of humility for the monarch: the distribution of gifts, or alms, to the deserving.

In Medieval and Tudor times, the monarch would also wash the feet of the poor but this tradition ended with the death of James II in 1701, however, the traditional alms-giving still takes place today. Accompanied by the Yeoman Guard carrying trays of the specially minted Maundy coins in purses, the Queen made her way down the Abbey to the general congregation and handed out the Maundy coins to 85 women and 85 men, the number matching her age as is customary.

You can find out more about Maundy Thursday in my article over at The Anne Boleyn Files – see Maundy Thursday and you can enjoy a BBC News video of the Queen attending the Maundy Thursday service at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13155577

The Anne Boleyn Experience

Monday, April 11th, 2011

The Anne Boleyn Experience Tour focuses on the life and death of Queen Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII. It includes visits to the three main landmarks associated with Anne Boleyn’s story:-

  • Hever Castle – The Boleyn family home
  • Hampton Court Palace – The palace which Henry VIII acquired from Cardinal Wolsey and which Anne Boleyn helped to plan the refurbishment.
  • The Tower of London – Anne Boleyn stayed at the Tower of London before her coronation and she was imprisoned there before her execution. Anne was also executed at the Tower and was laid to rest in its chapel, the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula.

Tour attendees will actually be staying at Hever Castle, in the private Astor Wing. It really is amazing to wake up each morning and be able to stroll around the grounds before breakfast or go for a moonlit walk around the grounds – out of this world!

What our guests said

I DID return for the second year as I said I would and it was better than ever. Truly, truly a most wonderful experience. Meeting with many other "Anne fans" and discovering how much you have in common with them. If you can do this trip - do it at all costs - it is wonderful and will leave you smiling and feeling content for a long time.
